"Working from life allows an artist to improve perception of reality and translate that into artistic impressions."
As a self-taught artist inspired by the great California Plein Air painters such as Edgar Alwin Payne, John Frost, and William Wendt, as well as contemporary masters David Leffel, Richard Schmid, and Matt Smith, Carl's work prioritizes authentic color relationships, thick knife texture, and the transparent glow of oil glazes.
